PLC Programmer / Automation Engineer

As a PLC Programmer / Automation Engineer, you will develop and implement advanced control solutions for custom machinery and industrial automation systems.

You will support projects from concept development through commissioning while working closely with Project Management, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, and Commissioning teams.

As part of our international automation network, approximately 90% of travel is within the United States. The remaining 10% may involve international assignments supporting customers, projects, and other United Automation Hub locations worldwide.

Qualifications

• Degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
• Experience in PLC programming and industrial automation
• Strong knowledge of Siemens S7, TIA Portal, and preferably WinCC
• Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Profinet, Profibus, EtherCAT, or EtherNet/IP
• Experience with robotics, machine vision systems, or VASS standards is a plus
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Excellent communication skills
• Valid driver's license preferred
• Authorization to work in the United States

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and program PLC software for custom machinery and industrial automation systems
• Create complex control logic using Siemens S7, TIA Portal, and similar automation platforms
• Design and optimize HMI and visualization systems
• Define and integrate interfaces between robots, feeding systems, vision systems, and automation components
• Develop control, safety, and automation concepts
• Perform software testing and virtual commissioning activities
• Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)
• Support machine commissioning and customer startup activities
• Troubleshoot and optimize existing PLC software and automation processes
• Prepare technical documentation, software specifications, and operating manuals
• Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and customers
• Support technical proposals and automation solution development
• Ensure software quality, maintainability, and documentation standards

Travel & International Collaboration

• Approximately 90% domestic travel within the United States
• Approximately 10% international travel, including Europe and other global customer locations
• Collaboration with customers, partners, and UAH teams worldwide
• Occasional support of international commissioning and automation projects
